1. Help Send Jordan to Portugal! – Donations needed to send Team AP’s 2010 Olympic Development Team member Jordan to Portugal. Until last week, we thought that Team USA may not have an International assignment for the ODP team, but details have been finalized to attend the World Cup event in Loulle Portugal.  Unfortunately due to the timing after Nationals, it creates a funding hardship.  If anyone would like to donate to help send Jordan on his first International
assignment- please contact Courtney at APTTA or Amy at the gym.  If we do not raise enough money we will have to notify USA-Gymnastics that Jordan will not be able to attend.

2. Camping Trip Success - Once again an amazing experience on the annual team camping trip.  What a great opportunity to get to know the athletes and their families and build the bonds of friendship and trust that keeps the children involved and growing into healthy, happy adults. Thanks to everyone that attended and especially the families that brought their boats to keep the water fun flying!

3. Mandatory Parent Meeting – Reminder of our mandatory parent meeting on Monday August   . We hope to have the competition schedule for the upcoming season as well as updates to our team program and handbook.

4. Where are Ron and Susan – Just in case you forgot- This is the annual week we head to Michigan to coach at the T&T Scholarship camp.  Camp Wakeshma is the major funding source for the Trampoline and Tumbling college scholarship program.  We would love to see many AP athletes joining us next year at camp! Following Wakeshma, is the Visa Elite Nationals Championships in Hartford Connecticut.  Fantastic timing for Coach George Sr to return to the program to assist in class coverage in our absence.  This is the time of the year where we test and review all basics in addition to the fun 100 skill challenge. Additionally Coach Tyler is home working at Sunsplash and will lend his double mini expertise as his other schedule allows. Our women’s’ artistic coach George Jr  who narrowly missed the Olympic Team in Men’s gymnastics but also represented the USA at the T&T World Championships is helping the T&T team while we are gone. Haley is also there to provide her excellent coaching skills as well- We have left you all in VERY capable hands!

5. Woodward Camp – The Woodward camp is just around the corner.  IF you would like your child to ride in one of the carpools headed south over Labor Day weekend please notify us of that need and we will arrange transportation for them.  We anticipate leaving around noon that Friday.

6. Letters to Coach Jamie – Coach Jamie is half way through his Marine Officer Candidate School and is doing very well. He has been appointed Platoon Leader for his company.  The team made some notes of encouragement to let him know we are thinking of him If your family would like to send a note of your own ask Amy or Coach Stephanie for his address.  He returns August 26th.

7. USAG
– registration is due today. Your child’s current membership will expire tomorrow. All you need to do is fill out the form that is in your family folder and return it to Amy. She will process all registrations/renewals online and use your credit card that we have on file.

8. APTTA Board – We are looking for someone to be the Fundraising Coordinator for the parent board. If you are interested, please talk to Courtney Oh or Jennifer Garcia ASAP. Also if you would like to help out but are not wanting to be on the board, please let us know as we have other “jobs” that we are in need of help with. A huge THANK YOU to Carrie Morris and Jackie Rampenelli for taking on the Silent Auction for our January meet!

APTTA- Used Book Sale
Many thanks to all of the families that have donated books so far. We have raised $337 since May 2010! If you haven’t donated books yet or have extras lying around and would like to donate them, please place them in the Rubbermaid container in the parent room.  If you have any questions, please contact Lisa Hill.

AP Half Day T&T Camp – Our half day T&T camp starts on July 12th  There is still space available in the T&T camp here, but I will have flyers at Nationals and expect it to fill before our return.  There will be many more drills and progressions for kids to get new skills than we have time for in regular class!

1.Team Luau & Parent Meeting Sunday - The team luau end of year party, award ceremony, and mandatory parent meeting are this Sunday at the Jacobson’s new place in Penryn. The fun begins at 2PM with games and social time, followed by the APTTA sponsored meal at 5PM, and then the awards & parent meeting at 6PM. Be sure and bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on, drinks for the afternoon, marshmallow roasting sticks, & sun block.

As a child my Dad was a Shriner and every year we went to a family Luau at one of his friends houses in Las Vegas. It was always one of the highlights of my summer- he had a true oasis with every fun thing a kid could dream of doing.  We ran free on his acreage “Jerry Berry Berry’s Patch”, played volleyball and croquet, swam, fished, and ended the day with s’mores.  Ron & I hope to make this new property hold that same memory your family as time goes by! We look forward to having you at our own little “Berry Patch”.

2. Awesome Youth Olympic Selection & Cirque Show – This has been a spectacular week for our athletes to witness our sport at it’s highest form.  The USA chose Hunter Brewster and Savannah Vinsant ( both athletes coached by our regular clinician Dmitri Poliaroush)to represent our Country to the first Youth Olympic Games.  Both the Jr Elites and Sr Elites gave stunning performances in the competition held here Sunday night. Last night a large group from Team AP witnessed the spectacular grace and athleticism of the Cirque du Sloeil performance of Allegria.  The stunning aerial performances, feats of strength and flexibility kept the whole group on the edge of our seats.  Then through the kind hospitality of Cirque Staffer Isabel, We were able to wait after the show for a Q&A session with stage manager Alan and former Portuguese National Team member and Allegria’s Lead Trampolinist  Diogo Faria  The children got to ask questions and find out how they chose their cast, what they do, how much they train, and many more things from the gracious Cirque crew!  If you missed Allegria with us- it will be at Arco all weekend and we highly recommend seeing it if there are seats still available!

3. Dress Code for summer workouts - The heat is finally here! Just a reminder from our parent handbook that there is a dress code for workout! Girls must be in a leotard, shorts are permitted if they are the tight form fitting ones designed four our sport- hair must be in a ponytail or a bun, boys must wear a mens step in or a tight fitting shirt like our exhibition one with shorts or trampoline pants.

4. Team Camping Trip - Team camping trip is right around the corner- July 23rd -25th.  The levels 9 and up and ages 13 and up may arrive the 22nd for the leadership development day that begins early Friday morning.  There are a few spots still available in the campground and I hear many of you have yet to book your space! Do it now at  http://www.reserveamerica.com/camping/map_of_Folsom_Lake_Sra/r/campgroundMap.do?camparea=91524790&contractCode=CA&parkId=120034 This is such a fun weekend that even non campers have transformed for this annual event!

5. T&T Day Camp at AP – The T&T Day camp still has space available – We run a fine summer day camp with great skill learning opportunities to drill in on those new skills and routines for next season! We strongly advice ALL team athletes to attend- remember if you took off more than one week plus our week of closure you MUST attend the camp and your card will be charged for the attendance.

6. APTTA- Saturday 6-8PM Open Gym fundraiser – This Saturday is the final fundraiser open gym for our 10 athletes headed to Virginia Beach for the JO National Championships. Tell all of your friends to come have a good time. the cost is $5 per hour and is tax deductible.

1.STATE Champs Tomorrow – The Northern California State Championships are tomorrow and Sunday in Livermore.

The facility is Robert Livermore Community Center at 4444 East Ave Livermore Ca 94550.

The hotel is at 720 Las Flores Rd. Livermore Ca 94550.

UNLESS YOU ARE IN THE FIRST SESSION OF THE DAY PLAN ON ARRIVING 60 Min prior to stretch time! They WILL start early as much as an hour if they are ahead! ALSO NOTE THAT IF YOUR CHILD IS LEVEL 8 OR HIGHER ON ONE EVENT THEY MAY BE SCHEDULED FOR TWO SESSIONS! CALL IF YOU HAVE SCHEDULE QUESTIONS.  Remember to have your tramp shoes or completely white socks, your competition apparel, HAIR MUST BE UP TIGHT ON HEAD. Feed them well and rest them!  I do want you to know that we had discussions with both groups about their competitive attitude headed into the State Championships.  Due to the distance of Nationals, many families have decided to not attend this season regardless of their child’s qualification status.  After so many of the team attended last year, many athletes have the attitude headed to State that their performance doesn’t matter because they are not headed to Nationals.  We spoke at the last practice this week that this should be their BEST meet of the year.  That their performance should be better than any they have given all season. That no matter how they place or what their score is that this should be their personal best of the season!  Please remind your child that the most important thing they can do at State this weekend is to focus on what is in their control.  The only thing in their control is what they do- with their attitude, their form, and their support of others! Please have them mentally prepared in a positive manner that this WILL be their BEST meet of the year!  We are proud of the progress they all have made and want them to take this opportunity to share it at State!

2.Regional Champs entry deadline – The Regional Entry Deadline is Monday. If you have NOT paid and have said you want to go – YOU MUST GET YOUR CHECK IN IMMEDIATELY. Anyone unpaid will not be included in the entry.

3.Nationals Fees – The fees for Nationals with entry, coach travel and coach fees will be about $500 based on 20 athletes attending.  It is usually a bit less, but we prefer to overestimate a bit and give back small refunds prior to departure than not have enough to go or chase money there! If you qualify, you will need to have this fee paid by May 15th in order to get tickets booked and entry submitted on time.

4.May 16 Kidsfest – Please join us at the Whitney Ranch Park for the first Annual Kidsfest.  We would love to have some team kids perform and we will have an interactive booth for the pres school age group that the fair is designed for. There will be lots of fun for the whole family.

5.Cirque at Arco – We finally have details on the AMAZING Cirque Du Soleil show coming to Arco the first week of June. (thanks coach Stephanie) We have a choice for group tickets either on Thursday the 3rd at 7:30 or Friday the 4th at 3:30. We think the 7:30 show would be best as then it would be a fun family outing. This show Allegria is the original Cirque show and everyone I ask says it is THE BEST!  Why do we want to go to a circus?  Well this is no ordinary circus – It is filled with incredible acrobatic talent that includes tumblers and trampolinists. The aerial stunts in this show and the entire experience in general will leave you speechless and gasping for breath. It is beautiful to watch and inspiring for our kids. It is also uncommon for the show to be so close to home.  It is also uncommon to get seats for under a $100.  We have first tier seats reserved for our group at only $55 each. I saw my good friend star in La Nuba in Florida last month and I have to say it was one of the most incredible things I have ever witnessed!  Don’t miss out join us- send your kids if you can’t go! There is a sign up sheet up front- We have to pay a deposit to hold the seats- we have reserved 120, but you don’t have to pay until May 10th.

6.George Nissen sad news – On April 7th our good friend George Nissen, the inventor of the trampoline passed away at the age of 96.  It was a great loss to our sports community and the world. His gentle ways and energetic passion for our sport and life will be missed on this planet.  I had the opportunity to see him last September in Vegas at the final selection event and he was just as inspiring as always. There is great stuff on the web about him and you can read more at this link http://www.usa-gymnastics.org/tt/pages/nissen.php and hear our George Hery Sr do an great online radio interview by following that one.

7. APTTA- Fundraising/Luau June 6- Money raised this year – This year each family has earned a credit of approximately $12 through various fundraising opportunities (Silent Auction, Snack bar, etc.) In the past we have used this amount to be credited towards your meet fees. This year instead of giving a credit back to each family, we would like to use the money to pay for the food at the luau. In the past we have had it catered and each family had to pay for their meals- between $5- $8 per person. Since economic times are hard on everyone right now we thought this would be a better way to use this money. This way we would use the money for the food (hot dogs, hamburgers, salad, beans, chips, watermelon and dessert) prepare it in house and provide meals without additional charge for our athletes and their immediate family. This way all families could enjoy the end of the year celebration without worrying about the cost associated with it. If you have any questions or objections to us using the money to purchase the food for the luau please talk to Courtney by May 1st.  Look for a flyer in your family folder soon with more information about the Luau!

8. APTTA Book Sale – Do you have any books laying around that your kids aren’t reading anymore? Donate them to APTTA for our used book sale. Lisa Hill is coordinating this book fundraiser. We are asking that each family donate 5 or more books into the Rubbermaid bucket at the gym. Next week, she will put them out for people to take a look at and buy them for $1 each. This is also a great place for you to find new to you books for your kids summer reading!
